Outreach Child Support - Experience in Raichur

*Sharing form Mejo(Jesus Youth Bangalore on his recent Outreach to Raichur)

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Just sharing the experience we had while we went for the verification of outreach child support. As you know, it was on short notice , and we started preparation only Saturday evening. I was in the middle of shifting my home to a new one.

We had an initial meeting in the house where Deril, Jaison and Antony is staying and just briefed the project overview and the motive this trip. With a few hours in hand, We(myself and Malcolm) went to buy tickets and got stuck in heavy rain. I felt like, our enemy really got disturbed. The road was just like a river, but we had no time to wait any more, so just proceeded to one internet cafe, to get the printouts of verification forms and address list. We got the printouts and arranged them in correct sets. Finally travel time confirmed in Rajahamsa at 9.30 PM.

We(Deril, Jaison and Antony) started by 8.15 around 1hr late from our planned departure :) Still we reached in time @ majestic,Bangalore to catch Rajahamsa.

@Raichur...

By morning around 7.00 AM we reached @ raichur bus stand, and we started our journey to Jawelgere, that is around 75KM away. We got  great support from Bishop Henry(Bellary diocese) and the parish priests(Fr.Morris and Fr.Basil) of Jawelgere. We reached @ jawelgere parish by around 8.30PM and the priests arranged accommodation and food for us. After the holy mass, we started our local travel in 3 bikes to the interiors of the parish. The locations of each house of the students were really far, and Fr.Morris travelled with us all the way.

Finally we completed the verification of 15 students, just half of the planned number. While reaching the end of the day, we got more attached to the local children there and in the evening we had a really nice time with the children there. So many children were there at parish ground, they sang and danced along with the tune of “Yes lord, Yes lord yes yes lord  :)”. Finally they gave a warm farewell to us.

Again it’s the time of Lords intervention :)

After all these, actually we were really running out of time. Our return bus was at 9.00 PM. We have to catch this bus from Raichur that is around 75KM away from jawelgere. We got bus to raichur only by 7.15 and logically it was for sure, we will not catch the Rajahamsa to bagalore . I was telling to Jaison that, we did our part to our best, now sit and relax; God will make a way to home. I was sure, that our loving God will make a way. Then on the travel to Raichur Antony met an uncle, who is working with KSRTC and through him, he got the phone number of the conductor of the Rajahamsa we were supposed to travel in. He called the conductor and told him, we are on the way can you wait for some time. Then he said like, they can wait up to 1hr if the passengers co-operate. Finally we reached @ raichur around 15 min late, all of them were waiting for us and as soon as we got in and the bus started.

Epilogue:

I had no option to take a half day leave, or being late in office Monday morning. Because, it was critical for me. Deril already had some attendance issues in his college. We were expecting deril will lose one more attendance, and I was thinking of how to tackle my absence in the morning session in office, but HIS grace again helped us in reaching far earlier than we expected and got plenty of time to go to office, class and to our own things....

Some reflections:

1. These are the places, where we have to reach out.

2. Outreach childsupport is just a tool, but we have to reach out there, and have to share with them the culture of fellowship, prayer and all our moral values we are holding.

3. In the name of this project, we are getting an entry into interiors of Karnataka. I welcome every ministry to reach out.

4. It’s the high time to break our comfort zone being in our own JY circles.

Most importantly.

1. We need a big task force to do the jobs related to child support ministry.

2. We need to bring up some JY groups there, because, we need somebody to coordinate things there, other than somebody  travelling from Bangalore for 10hrs.

Thy will be done,
Mejo (Outreach  Child Support Team)

About Us

Jesus Youth is an international Catholic youth movement with a charismatic spirituality. It had its beginnings in Kerala (India), but is now active in nearly 25 different countries around the world.

Jesus Youth is an initiative of young people themselves, who, filled with the Holy Spirit try to reach out to other young people. The strength of the movement is its special focus on a life centered on the Lord Jesus Christ: beginning with an experience of God nourished by prayer, the Word of God, the sacraments and fellowship, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with others.

Though not an actual community, Jesus Youth is a network of small but vibrant groups of young people. In their own life situations, they strive to give time to the Lord, responding to the challenges of today’s world in the power of the Holy Spirit.

It was in the early 90’s that Jesus Youth fellowship groups started to bloom in few places of Karnataka particularly in Bangalore, Coorg and Sullia. A prayer group came into existence in Bangalore by the initiative of a small number of youngsters who came to the city for their higher education and better job prospects. In KVG College, Sullia a prayer group started functioning in the year 1993. At same stage in the time, some Jesus Youth from northern part of Kerala made an effort to build prayer groups in Coorg. In Sullia the first Jesus youth programme happened in 1995. It was in mid nineties the movement slowly started to lay foundation in places like Mangalore, Shimoga, Belthangadi, Puthur, Manipal, Mudbidri etc.

Over the past years the Lord has used many people to build his kingdom through the platform of Jesus youth, in various parts of Karnataka. Today there are Jesus Youth groups in over 33 places in Karnataka. The presence of Jesus Youth is seen and felt strongly in nursing schools, campuses, schools, parishes and hospitals. The zonal service teams, the prayer group’s or, the core teams coordinate the activities in these areas. Presently, the Jesus Youth has various prayer groups, intercessory groups in various colleges, schools, hospitals, nursing schools and parishes in Karnataka.
